Erionota thrax larvae found in the leaf rolls

Sign / Symptoms
Description

The larvae roll leaves around the midrib to hide and emerge at night to feed on foliage. Severe infestations leave the leaves skeletonized, hindering tree growth. Frass around leaf rolls and soil can indicate pest activity, with affected leaves eventually drying and dying.

Management And Control
  1. Regularly monitor pest presence and population levels.
  2. Collect and eliminate larvae and cocoons from leaf sheaths.
  3. Remove and dispose of infested parts early to reduce pest numbers.
  4. Chemical control: Apply insecticides like trichlorfon, alpha-cypermethrin, malathion, or cartap hydrochloride, adhering to the recommended rates on the label and alternating between insecticides with different modes of action (IRAC).
