Mealybug on fruit.

Sign / Symptoms
Description

Both adults and nymphs feed by sucking sap from plant parts, which leads to stunted growth. Mealybugs secrete a sweet honeydew that encourages the growth of black sooty mold on the leaves and fruits, disrupting photosynthesis and fruit development. This honeydew also attracts ants, which further spread the mealybugs."

Management And Control

Regularly monitor pest populations and control ant activity that aids in pest dispersion. Promptly remove and dispose of infested plant parts. For chemical control, spray insecticides like white oil, dimethoate, or malathion according to the recommended label rates, alternating between different modes of action (IRAC). To address black sooty mold infestations, apply benomyl fungicide as per the label instructions.
