Sign / Symptoms
Description

Adults deposit eggs in young leaves. Both nymphs and adults feed by piercing and sucking the sap from young leaves. Their excretion of a sweet liquid promotes the growth of black sooty mold. Affected young leaves become yellow, spotted, and stunted. In severe infestations, the leaves curl, dry out, and can eventually die.

Management And Control
  • Regularly monitor pest populations, particularly during leaf formation and summer.
  • Prune and discard infested plant parts early to manage the population.
  • Use water jets on young leaves to control nymphs and adult psyllids.
  • For chemical control, alternate insecticides like malathion, dimethoate, lambda-cyhalothrin, and cypermethrin with white oil, ensuring the recommended application rates are followed.
