Description

The moth lays eggs on the fruit surface, then the larva will bore into the fruit (castor, flesh and seed). M. magniplaga was reported attacking fruit only, and the other Mudaria sp. attacking the flower bud. The infestation could be detected by the presence of frass near the pest entry hole at the fruit skin. Larva  is reddish brown and about 3.5cm when matured. Adult moth is about 5.0cm (wingspan) with 3 yellow dots on the brown wings.

Management And Control

Ensure farm sanitation, remove infected fruit/ plant parts, perform aeration or selective pruning and perform fruit thinning to avoid fruit contact with each other. Monitor the adult by using light trap. Chemical control such as deltamethrin or lambda-cyhalothrin        alternately using different modes of action (IRAC).
