Sign / Symptoms
Description

The females remove a piece of the peel, lay eggs, and cover them with a brown layer of gum and feces. A crescent-shaped incision is visible around the oviposition site. As the fruit and seed develop, the tunnel and seed entry become completely obscured.

Management And Control

Cultural Control

Collect and destroy all infested, damaged and fallen fruits. Wrap fruit buds as early as 5 weeks with a paper sack or burlap.

 

Chemical control

Sprays insecticide such as cyfluthrin, cypermethrin or deltamethrin according to the rate recommended on the label.
